West Seattle Bridge

As you may have noticed from the preceding photos, the span is hollow. This is where the spans from each side of the river meet in the middle.

The square steel plates you see on the wall are part of a system of springs designed to keep the bridge moving back and forth along it's length to maintain stability during an earthquake.
