The Columbia Center was renamed the Columbia Seafirst
Center during construction, and then renamed the Bank of America Tower
with that bank's acquisition of Seafirst Bank. 945 feet tall, it was the
ninth largest building in the world on it's completion: The tallest west
of the Mississippi. 14,800 tons of structural steel went into this
construction. Building models were actually tested in wind tunnels during
the design process, and this was one of the first projects to extensively
use the computer in engineering design, saving a reputed 100
engineer-years of labor. The building and its' tenants consume enough
electricity annually to light and heat 2,256 homes. There
are 261 negatives of this project.
