Long time friend John Harter
started out this series of installations with a small forest consisting of
saplings cut from his property to fit between floor and ceiling, with
shredded newspaper on the floor representing forest flora, or perhaps, the
ultimate use for trees in our culture, and small 8x10 inch paintings in
plastic sleeves nailed to the trees. A highlight of his show was the
opening performance by poet Jesse Bernstein, backed by jazz bassist
Pete Leinonen. Jesse didn't read from his own work, but kept the crowd
laughing with his reading of the entry exam from Western State Mental
Hospital.
